A look into the history of today’s enterprise indicates the long tradition of the textile trade in the region of Hof. Already in 1853 the newspaper „Hofer Wochenblatt“ reported about the plan to build a mechanical cotton spinning mill in Hof.

In 1869 the „ Neue Baumwoll-Spinnerei Hof“ was founded – short time later this company united with the „Mechanischen Weberei“ to the „Neuen Baumwoll-Spinnerei und Weberei Hof“. On the way to a versatile group the integration of the „Mechanische Zwirnerei Fritz Koch“ followed in 1926 and in 1931 the takeover of the „Süddeutsche Webstoff-Gesellschaft“, from this follows the todays successful subsidiary eswegee.

After the second World War the „Neue“ was continuing in expansion and build up productions in Nördlingen and Moschendorf. In 1963 the „Neue Textilgesellschaft Münchberg mbH“ – a weaving mill for decorative fabrics with own dyeing and finishing plant – came to the group. Nowadays this subsidiary named „Neutex Home Deco GmbH“ distributes its decoration fabrics and ready made curtains worldwide.

The most important event 100 years after founding the group was the participation in the group „Vogtländische Baumwollspinnerei“, where the „Hofer Weberei Zschweigert KG“, the „Textilwerk Lauterecken KG“ and the „Handelsgesellschaft mbH Hof“ were combined. The portfolio of the group was well-rounded with the purchase of the „Spinnerei Hermann Ebenauer & Co. Hof“, the takeover of the majority shares of „Bleicherei, Färberei und Appreturanstalt Uhingen AG“ and the sale of the buildings and machines of the former „Remstaler Teppichfabrik Plüderhausen“.

In December 1983 the „Textilgruppe“ was suffered by a sharp setback for the development. The spinning mill in Moschendorf , once the „proud of the NSH“, was completely destroyed by a fire desaster. But in the following years the reconstruction took place. Today it comprises a spinning and a weaving mill. In 1996 the structure of the „Textilgruppe Hof“ was changed into a holding with subsidiaries. In April 1997 the

„Südwolle AG Nürnberg“ takeover the majority shares on the intermediate renamed traditonal company „Textilgruppe Hof AG (TGH AG)“.

The new plant for nonwovens in Reichenbach/Saxony

The growing globalization was also leading to fundamental modification in structures of the textile industry, especially in the apparel field. Now the strategic orientation to technical textiles and nonwovens and the opening up to worldwide markets determine the investments of the group.

The purchase of the Romanian decorative fabrics manufacturer „SC Textor S.A.“ in 2005, a participation on the Indian nonwoven producer „Supreme Nonwoven Industries Pvt. Ltd.“ and the purchase of the special yarn producers „SBS CoreTech GmbH“ and „Max Süß GmbH“ in Saxony in 2007 guarantee the future of the group.

An other milestone is the building of a new production plant in Reichenbach/Saxony.

Under the roof of the „ERWO Holding AG“ – their shares are completely in family property – companies from different textile fields are bundled. It acts as holding company of the „Südwolle GmbH & Co. KG“, where the worsted yarn activities of the group are assembled , and the „van Delden GmbH“,  a producer of outer fabrics, and is holding the majority shares of the „Textilgruppe Hof AG“.

The „Südwolle“ as the original company looks back on a long textile tradition which goes back to the year 1918. Today the „Südwolle“ is an international operating company, which is present at all important worsted yarn markets worldwide.
